One | Sparks Interest

Kids love movies, especially when they get to watch them in school. Showing movies in science can get students excited and intrigued about learning. This is a great way to tie a topic into something that interests the students. this would be a great way to open up a unit specifically one that may not have as many interactive activities. There are tons of great videos that you can find Snippets of if you don’t want to even show the entire video.

Two | Relevant to Students

When students can see how the science content I can relate to them and to the real world they are more inclined to become interested. A lot of times the problem with science is that there is a disconnect that students have because they don’t see why it is important for them to understand. By showing a video clip or even an entire video it allows teachers to connect to the relevance of the material and their lives.

Three | Inspire Students to want to do Science

there are several videos I can Inspire students to want to do science. a couple of videos that I can think of we’re based on people who created wonderful achievements in science who are not supported by others and often times ridiculed. (Give some examples).  By students seeing regular individuals overcoming many odds is adding to the inspiration that they too can do hard things and have big outcomes.

How do you teach with movies in science?

When selecting movies to use, you must first consider the relevance of the films to the unit you teach. Furthermore, it must also be age-appropriate. Using films in the classroom is not the time for students to goof off. Remind students that there is a privilege associated with watching a film in class. It is not time for sleeping, playing on phones, or completing assignments during that period.
