How to Organize a Classroom Caddy

A classroom caddy is a great way to keep all of your classroom supplies organized and in one place. By keeping all of your supplies in one place, it makes it easy for students to access them when they need them and for you as the teacher to easily monitor what’s being taken out of the classroom.

There are many different ways that you can organize a classroom caddy. The first thing that you’ll want to do is figure out how many different items will be included in the caddy. This will help you determine how much space you have in the caddy and what kind of container or tray you’ll need to put everything into.

If there are going to be a lot of supplies in your caddy, then you’re going to want something that has lots of dividers so that everything can be separated from each other. If this is the case, then it might make sense for you to go with a plastic storage bin.

Classroom Caddy Ideas

This really is super simple and I’ve even thrown in a FREE template for you below! I purchased my caddy

set from amazon and have linked some very similar ones. I love the fact these have a handle so if you decide to have students carry them around your classroom, it is easy to do and less likely that they will drop them. Most of the time I leave them on their desks because they use supplies from them almost daily, however, they can easily be moved if need be.

The ones that I have also have 3 compartments. There are 2 smaller compartments and one longer one. In the smaller 2 compartments, I put glue sticks in one, and in the other I put erasers and a covered manual pencil sharpener.  In the long compartment, I store scissors and colored pencils. The colored pencils start out in the original box, but over time they end up directly in the caddy. I do not keep rulers and markers in the caddy. Unfortunately, I’ve had one too many rulers broken because of students playing with them and slapping other students with them. If one is needed, I pull them out special. Markers are only used when we are working on butcher paper for assignments. Markers lose their caps too easily if stored in the caddy and then get dried up.

Labeling the Caddy

I designed labels for my caddies because I wanted them to be cute and also numbered for each group. My tables easily allow for groups of 4, so I tend to leave them that way all year long. The caddy sits perfectly in the middle of the tables. I love that the most used and needed supplies are right there at arm’s reach and eliminate the chaos that can sometimes ensure when gathering supplies.
