Before we jump into the makeover process, take a moment to reflect on the past year. Think about what worked well and what you’d like to improve in your classroom. I always start this towards the end of the school year nd make notes for myself. When I come back from summer break, I can revisit my notes and see which of those changes I want to implement. Consider feedback from your students and any challenges you encountered. Use this reflection as a guide to make informed decisions during your classroom revamp.
TWO || Play with Colors and Themes
Inject new life into your classroom by playing with colors and themes. Choose a color scheme that creates a positive and stimulating environment. Vibrant colors like blues, greens, or yellows can enhance energy and creativity, while calming shades like pastels can create a serene atmosphere. Consider incorporating a theme that aligns with your subject area or the interests of your students. I really like the neutrals with the boho vibe right now. The great thing is, each year you can change your mind or just make some subtle changes. Whether it’s a tropical paradise, a space odyssey, or a literary wonderland, let your imagination run wild!
THREE || Flexible Seating Options
Break away from the traditional rows of desks and embrace flexible seating options. Create cozy reading nooks with bean bags or floor cushions, set up standing desks, or incorporate comfortable seating areas. Providing choices in seating arrangements can cater to different learning preferences and increase student engagement. Plus, it adds a touch of modernity and flexibility to your classroom. Obviously, you will be restricted to the space and type of classroom you have.
FOUR || Inspiring Wall Displays
Blank walls? Not anymore! Use your classroom walls as a canvas for inspiration. Display student work, inspirational quotes, or educational posters related to your subject. Incorporate interactive elements like whiteboards or chalkboards where students can contribute their thoughts and ideas. Involve your students in creating the displays to create a sense of ownership and pride in their classroom environment. I like to incorporate the Scientist of the Month Posters on my bulletin board with an interactive QR code for them to find out more about the individuals.

Establish an organized storage area for supplies and materials. By creating clearly defined zones, you’ll facilitate smoother transitions between activities and promote a sense of order.

Set up a small indoor garden or place potted plants strategically throughout the room.
