Science Review Escape Room

1. If you have not tried an escape room, then you are totally missing out. These are game-changer. Our media center specialist has a lot of these games already made and we can just g in and use them, but there are so many ways to create your own, Yes, they are somewhat time-consuming to create, but they can be used for years to come. I have seen teachers create tactile escape rooms and I have also seen digital escape rooms. It really just depends on what you are looking for and have available to you. A simple search online will pull up TONS of escape room ideas along with some you can purchase.

Science Review Activities

2. If you have followed my blog for a while or on Instagram, I share my love of stations constantly. There are so versatile. They serve the purpose of introducing new content, having students use them for activities, as well as reviewing content. I mostly use stations to prepare for tests, A super-easy way to make stations for a test review, is to use a study guide you already have made. You can either cut up the study guide and spread them apart, or you can copy and paste each question onto a PowerPoint slide and label the station numbers. I have done it both ways and they are equally as effective. There have been instances I have a review outline prepared for them and sometimes I have had them write down their own answers. I will say that having a dedicated handout for them to write on is much more organized, but both ways work.

Science Review Games (digital & jeopardy)

3. Another one of my go-to games to review for a test is Kahoot/Quizizz/Gimkit/Blooket. I have used all 4 of these digital games and I can say that blooket is probably my favorite. There are so many versions of these games that my students never seem to get tired of them. I can use a Kahoot review for a quiz and then a quizizz review for a test. I like to mix and match so they never know what to expect. It keeps them on their toes.

4. Jeopardy is one that is an old staple, but I recently found an online version called Jeopardy Labs. This is great for creating and using in class, but can also be posted on your blog for students to access at home.

Practice Test for Science

5. The last science exam review I suggest is to do a practice test the day before the test. It sounds like a waste, but it really helps them see how they possibly would score. I choose 5 questions from the test and reword some of them and shuffle the answer choices. Typically I choose some of the more challenging questions so they are not fooled into thinking the test will be easy. Once we take the practice test, we then grade it together and review the answers. This always brings up great discussions and students often want further clarification.

BONUS: Science Review Packet

This might sound like a no-brainer, but a lot of teachers do not give out study guides. I have to be honest, that sometimes I contemplate if I am wasting paper because even when I require them to submit for a grade a lot of students don’t do them. However, I keep in mind those students who want the packet and want to do well, so I pass them out anyway.

I hope the 5 science review game ideas help you to better prepare your students for a test. I’d love for you to share with me other ways you prepare for a test with your students. Hit me up on my socials and DM me with your awesome ideas! I’d love to feature them!
