My 5 Favorite Videos of Human Anatomy that Engage Students

Videos of Human Anatomy

One of my favorite parts of Human Anatomy is being able to show students realistic and informative videos that tie in with the content we are studying. There are so many anatomical videos out there that I could have listed 50! However, I chose five of my favorite that are tried-and-true that students love and I find provide massive value. Most of these can be ordered through Amazon and I have included links Within. By ordering through one of my Amazon affiliate links it cost no extra on your part, however, I gain a teeny commission from your purchase.

Anatomical Videos List

One | Discovery Human Body Pushing the Limits Series

I absolutely LOVE this series. The episodes included in the Pushing the Limits Series are Strength, Brain Power, Sight, and Sensation. Each episode is approximately 45 minutes and is chock full of amazement at how the body works. It has a lot of action and real-life stories included. There is NOTHING boring about these videos so I know your students will love these!

Three | PBS NOVA Life’s Greatest Miracle

This video is a cheesy one, but I love how it takes on the perspective of expecting parents. Life’s Greatest Miracle follows not only their journey but discusses and shows changes in the baby and mother during pregnancy.

Four | Frank Capbra’s Wonders of Life Hemo the Magnificent

Hemo the Magnificent is a hybrid cartoon and real-life video. I got this years and years ago and have shown it to all my Anatomy classes. Dr. Frank Baxter shows the fascinating path taken by the blood throughout the body in Hemo the Magnificent, a humorous tour of the body’s amazing plumbing system filled with memorable characters and eyepopping microscopic photography.

Five | Mystery Diagnosis (Any Season)

I have the first season of Mystery Diagnosis, so this is the only one I can speak to, but the stories are so fascinating. Each episode takes you through the steps of these individuals’ medical odyssey. These real-life medical mysteries will captivate your students and they will be pining to find out what the diagnosis is at the end of the video.

Anatomy Learning Videos

Now, let’s chat about how to use these videos so they are processing what they are watching. I typically give students an outline with questions they must answer as they watch the videos. I do give them some time after the videos to collaborate with others if they are missing any responses. Sometimes, I will collect them and other times I will go over the answers they should have. Really, it depends on the class and what I want them to do with that information. In the past, I have also given video quizzes where they could use their notes. This ensures that students are not just writing down answers, but they are writing down accurate information that will help them on the video quiz.
